    Beef production in Indonesia has been fluctuating since 2015, with the highest amount in 2016 with 518,484 tons. In 2019, the total production only reached 490,420 tons, while Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) stated that in 2019, meat demand reached 686,270 tons, with demand for beef as much as 2.56 kilograms per capita per year.

  • BPPT Research Findings

    The summary findings of almost two years of research by BPPT at two commercial oil palm plantations in South and Central Kalimantan were that cattle grazing had no measurable commercial impact on Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) yield, Ganoderma incidence or soil chemical and fertility factors. Cattle grazing did however reduce weed control and herbicides costs.

  • Preliminary Results Are In!

    After more than 2 years of partner engagement and project delivery, key commercial performance indicators (conception rates, calving rates, weaning rates, calving intervals and Average Daily Gains) are starting to show trends, supporting a more conclusive answer on the commercial viability of the SISKA model - cattle breeding in oil palm plantations and the Cut-and-Carry small-holder breeding model. The Open-grazing model will need another 6 months of data given the later start of the open-grazing project. Conclusive results for all three models will be made available to industry in early 2020.
